Religions are nothing but messages of Freedom. It is humans who set traps for themselves and suffer.

Sin versus Error

It is essential that error be not confused with sin, and it is this distinction that makes salvation possible. For error can be corrected, and the wrong made right. But sin, were it possible, would be irreversible. The belief in sin is necessarily based on the firm conviction that minds, not bodies, can attack. And thus the mind is guilty, and will forever so remain unless a mind not part of it can give it absolution. Sin calls for punishment as error for correction, and the belief that punishment is correction is clearly insane.

Sin is not an error, for sin entails an arrogance which the idea of error lacks. To sin would be to violate reality, and to succeed. Sin is the proclamation that attack is real and guilt is justified. Sin is the grand illusion underlying all the ego's grandiosity.

Another view of Religion from
Snake Hunters blog. 06/28/06

In the beginning...

Man observed natural phenomena.
The Sun, Moon, an angry Mountain,
the 'God of the Waters', with Rain, Wind, Thunder & Lightning, and Fire! Oh, yes.

Then this "holy one" created
potions, and magical tools like
colorful beads & feathers, and drums, and rattles to ward off evil and sickness, and stressful
times. Smoking pots, and Chants
and Mantras, and the "Laying on of
Hands." Dances, and rituals, and
Magic tricks all became a part of
the inpressive Mystical Showcase.

Common man had no option but to
believe...to have Faith!

Then clever man created stories to
explain these things in great detail and circumstance.

Along comes a really creative guy
that CLAIMS He Alone Knows the Source, and would convey God's
wishes, if they would only ask.
Their prayer requests conveyed
an impressive and useful Power!
When he succeeded, fine. When there was faikure, "It Was God's
Will".

This scheme worked well, and the
first of a long line of False Prophets, Chieftans & Medicine Men
followed, and they employed scribes
to record their audacious spiritual
gifts. (There may have been some
exaggerations here).

Today, this nonsence contines
with Popes, Ayatollahs, and Televangelists...and money gifts,
often called "Love Offerings" and maimings, murders, and beheadings punctuate the landscape of mind.

A "Fear of God" was meant to intimidate Kings, Princes and Warlords in powerful pkaces. Also,
with Infidels, Heathens, Apostates,
Agnostics and Darwinian Atheists!
Scholars tremble silently.

A likely fable, don't you think?
